A Tim Walker inspired wedding for Dan and Archie
Dan and Archie first got in touch with us armed with a very specific vision. Inspired by Tim Walker’s photograph of balloons pouring out of Eglingham Hall in Northumberland, Dan was looking for a venue where he had the freedom to be imaginative and bring his creativity to life.
“After two years of planning, our ‘Tim Walker meets Luke Edward Hall’-inspired wedding of dreams came true. We DIY’d almost all of the décor to save on budget. We even assisted with the balloons on the morning of the wedding.
“The plan was to do the balloons ourselves, but I soon realised we needed an expert to execute it. Jemma from @TheLittleEvent_co came for many meetings, balloon colour palette tests and hanging trials to create our masterpiece! We helped on the morning of the wedding to attach them to the house before going back and getting ready. It was so much fun and she truly bought the dream into reality.
“Masking tape and sticky hooks were used to secure the balloons and as well as being environmentally friendly, the balloons were strong and secure too.”
But this wasn’t where the creativity ended for Dan and Archie’s wedding:
“As a print designer and Archie being a carpenter, we took the opportunity to DIY more or less everything we could for the wedding to help our budget. I designed and illustrated all of the wedding stationery and got it printed. Archie made the sail boards which were inspired by shelving from the House of Hackney section in Liberty London and painted it in leftover paint from our renovation.
“I created a coat of arms mixed with our initials which became the perfect backdrop to the dancefloor, complete with a fun tinsel curtain. We replicated this for a flag which flew above Barnston for our day.
“I brought a lot of our home @AModestSemi into the marquee in terms of style – with striped tablecloths for the long tables from Dunelm. I bought our actual home in too – with candlesticks and vases from home and using leftover fabrics for bows – like the one I made for Ronaldo’s tail. It was hard work and a lot of late nights, but we were so pleased with the results!”
“For the flower arrangements, we bought 16 buckets of seasonal stems from Hawksbury Hunt, which we arranged the day before the wedding with friends and family.
“Lastly, our ceremony was conducted by Sarah Powell, who spent time getting to know us as a couple to make our ceremony really personal and authentic to us.
“We also hired Ronaldo, Barnston Lodge’s gorgeous confetti pony who wooed our guests left, right and centre as they picked a handful of confetti out for the celebratory throw. Ronaldo loved meeting everyone afterwards and was immaculately behaved, other than shaking his flower mane out straight after the photos!
Dan and Archie’s wedding décor was a true testament to the power of imagination and the day itself was filled with love, creativity, and joy—exactly what we strive for here at Barnston Lodge. We were so honoured to play a small part in making their dream wedding into a reality.
